The Hollywood Reporter on Rinaldi’s Sundowning

This morning, we’re so proud to read Michael Rechtshaffen’s review of Sundowning in The Hollywood Reporter. And while this is Frank Rinaldi’s ’11 (MFA, Kanbar, Film) directorial feature debut, his classmates Stephanie Bousely (MFA, Kanbar, Film), Kiran Chitvanis ’12 (MFA, Kanbar, Film), Susan Chau ’12 (MFA, Kanbar, Film), Laetitia Gangotena ’11 (MFA, Kanbar, Film), and Kenny Gee (MFA, Kanbar, Film) were part of the cast and worked as producers, director of photography, and production designer.

Alumni Update: Yiran Xu screens his animation at Esplanade

ANDA invites you to the screening of Yiran Xu’s “Last Paradise” at the Esplanade in Singapore.  The film is part of the Esplanade’s Visual Arts program, Short-Film Showcase, curated by Chen Kunyi.  The exhibition is showing all-day, everyday until April 1st, 2012, and can be reached by the Esplanade B1 car-park entrance.

Xu Yiran (’10, MFA, Animation & Digital Arts) currently works as a 3D modeller at Lucasfilm Singapore.

Joe Reidy Visits Campus

Joe Reidy ’76 (Film), producer and long time assistant director for Martin Scorsese ’64, ’68, Hon. ’92 visited New York University Tisch School of the Arts Asia on January 18, 2012. A Tisch alumnus, Reidy was led on a tour around the campus by Michael Burke, chair of the Graduate Film department.

Over 20 years, Reidy has worked with Scorsese on 11 projects. Reidy also has worked with Robert Redford, Sidney Lumet and Oliver Stone ’71 (Film), artistic director of Tisch School of the Arts Asia.

When not directing or producing, Reidy can be seen on-screen doing various bit parts. His favorite scene was acting as a gambler who got caught cheating in Casino with Robert DeNiro and Don Rickles.

Visit by Students of Hong Kong Baptist University

Students of Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) visited New York University Tisch School of the Arts Asia on January 4. The visit was part of a Singapore tour that lasted from January 2 – 5, 2012. The students are members of the School of Communication, HKBU who major in Cinema and Television, Digital Graphic Communication, Journalism, Public Relations and Advertising, and Organizational Communication respectively.

The visit, which was conducted by Timothy Tan, Director of Public Affairs & Marketing, started off with a presentation of the school followed by a short introduction of Animations and Digital Arts by Jean-Marc Gauthier, Chair of the Animations and Digital Arts Department. The students of HKBU were then treated to a mini screening of award-winning short films and animations. The visit was then capped off with a tour of the Tisch Asia campus.

New York University Tisch School of the Arts Asia looks forward to more collaborations with Hong Kong Baptist University in the future.

Recap of Information Session Held in New York City

Just before we left for the holiday break, we held an information session in New York City. Jean-Marc Gauthier, chair of the Animation and Digital Arts program joined by Skype, and David K. Irving, Richard Wesley and Mark Dickerman, all who formerly held positions as chair of the Film and Dramatic Writing programs in Singapore, were on hand to discuss the academic programs.
