MFA Grad Film student’s Shawn Sigler’s ‘Therapeutic Behavior’ at First Take

therapeuticbehaviour_650x250

About Therapeutic Behavior: “An unstable woman tries to strengthen her relationship with her girlfriend by bringing her to the place where she attempted suicide. This last straw pushes Dara to end the relationship.”

Here in Singapore, Shawn Siggler has made 3 films, including Therapeutic Behavior. He also assisted with several thesis films, including Ersatz Asia. In NYC, Shawn edited for The Police, Genesis and worked on several short films.

First Take, happens every 1st Monday of the month at The Substation, is a popular screening of new & fresh local short films that displays a raw, cutting edge that juts out apart from the rest. The screening is followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers.

It is a platform for new filmmakers and anyone who is interested in filmmaking to meet, exchange ideas and show their work. With a post-screening Q&A to pick the filmmakers’ brains, question their motives and push them towards the next level in their growth filmmakers, First Take is the platform to spot the future talents of Singapore film and throw in your pitch to nurture their future development! Very much a film community building platform and avenue.

The audience favourites of each month (via audience voting) will be screened again in December under “Best of First Take” and a final vote is cast for the Top Favourite of First Take 2013. So we encourage the filmmakers to let their friends and family, who may not have seen the film to come for the screening.

Do impressions, Frank Oz will not

PHOTO: DESMOND LIM

From the Straits Times:

Frank Oz, the voice and hands of the much beloved Star Wars character Yoda, has little patience for fans who ask him to do the character’s trademark reverse syntax and lilting tones.

Neither does he accede to requests to do the voices of Muppet and Sesame Street characters he helped create, such as Miss Piggy, Bert and Cookie Monster. As far as Oz is concerned, it would be the equivalent of performing a party piece.

“It’s like asking your four-year-old daughter, ‘Hey, would you play the violin for my friends?’ All I would be doing is showing off. I respect these characters too much to do that,” says the 68-year-old puppeteer, director, voice actor and actor, whose real name is Frank Oznowicz.

The American was in town last week for a week-long stint as the artist in residence at Tisch School of the Arts Asia. Oz says he came to Singapore at the invitation of Joe Pichirallo, chair of the Undergraduate Film & Television programme at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.
