Kyle Haskett, a fourth year film student at NYU Tisch School of the Arts Asia, won the Panavision New Filmmaker Grant for his script New Earth on the Barrens and will be shooting his thesis film on their 35mm rig. Additionally, Kodak has awarded him a 50% discount on stock. Past winners of the Panavision Award include Steven Soderbergh for Sex, Lies and Videotape, Jared Hess for Napoleon Dynamite, and Michael Burke – Chair of Graduate Film at Tisch School of the Arts Asia – for The Mudge Boy.
Additionally, Atsuko Hirayanagi ’12 (MFA, Kanbar, Film) won the Audience Award at Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2012 for her 2nd year film Mo Ikkai. Hirayanagi previously earned the Grand Prix Award at the same festival.
