On Friday the 12th of March, NYU Tisch Asia celebrated a momentous day. The first Stereoscopic 3-D film-shoot in history for both campuses was shot on NYU Tisch Asia’s three-year old campus.
The shoot was for a trailer for graduating student Basil Mironer’s first feature titled “Black Echo”. Widescreen-Revolutions provided the 3D camera comprised of a Mirror Rig with two RED cameras. In addition, Basil Mironer, collaborated with local action star Sunny Pang and actress Amanda Klein from Universal Studios Singapore for the shoot.
In tandem with the local production company, the students built realistic tunnels from the ground up – Utilizing plywood, metal, and cement covered in dirt and roots. The end result is sure to terrify the users as they experience fear and claustrophobia underground in 3-D.
The screen play is being written by well known Singaporean screenwriter and Tisch Asia Dramatic Writing student Ken Kwek and MFA writing candidate Garrett Lander. In the next year, the producing team headed by rising third year film student Alice Ho, will be communicating with investors all over the world to usher in this new 3-D experience.

This is an exciting development and fantastic effort by the students, but the article is factually incorrect. I am a Tisch alum and I’ve got a roll of 16mm black and white reversal film I shot in 3D in 1992 and a full color Hi8 video from 1994. Black Echo might be the first 3D feature shot at NYU but most definitely not the first 3D shoot.
