Tisch Asia’s Basil Mironer Makes Film with His Family
Tuesday, August 31st, 2010Recent Grad Film graduate, Basil Mironer collaborated with his family in the making of a 30-minute independent film entitled, “Fire Proof” or “Thohn Fai” in Thai. Basil co-wrote the story with his father, Dr. Eugene Mironer for his brother, Ben. This “first family collaboration” captured the attention of local journalist, Kim Kimzey and the story was published here. The film was shot over 10 days at Mironer’s former school, Spartanburg Day School with a budget of USD$15,000.
His crew comprises of former classmates from Tisch Asia and film producer Tommy Oliver.

Tisch Summer High School Program in Singapore 2010: Behind The Scenes II
Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010The Tisch Summer High School Program also teaches the students the basics of post-production. The students learn to edit on the latest Final Cut Pro 7 at our Tisch Asia campus. This is the same facilities used by our MFA in Film students. Under the guidance of Post-Production instructor Mr John Burkhart, students learn how to import clips from tapeless media (Sony SXS cards), use timeline tools, utilize basic editing tools, 3-point editing and basic color correction. Tisch Summer High School Program in Singapore 2010: Pulau Ubin Trip
Monday, August 2nd, 2010On July 18, the Tisch Summer High School Program students had a little weekend adventure at Pulau Ubin, the last “kampung” (or village) in Singapore. The group took a bumboat ride from Changi jetty from the main island to Pulau Ubin. Once arrived, students can choose to cycle or ride the van for a half-day tour around the island. Students experienced “Singapore in the 60s” as they cycled through rubber plantations and tropical mangroves. It was an interesting and enriching day away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Tisch Summer High School Program in Singapore 2010: A Trip to Singapore’s Night Safari
Tuesday, July 27th, 2010For the first time, Tisch Summer High School Program introduces a new destination: SINGAPORE! 11 high school students from Singapore, United States, United Kingdom, Qatar, Canada and South Korea came to Singapore the month-long program to learn filmmaking. The students visited the Night Safari on their first day (12 July 2010) of the program. See below for the photos of their night adventure!

Film Event: The 1st Symposium on Film in Singapore
Friday, April 23rd, 2010The Department of Film held the 1st symposium on film in Singapore on Thursday (22 April) at Tisch Asia. The symposium focused on “Film and Television: Singapore as a Media Hub” with guest speakers such as Roger Spottiswoode (writer/director of “Tomorrow Never Dies”), Daniel Yun (Founder of Homerun Singapore), Isaac Kerlow (Director/Visual Creator), Chang Yee Yeo (Hyde Park Imagenation Singapore), Freddie Yeo (General Manager of Infinite Frameworks), Kathleen McInnis (Publicist) and other distinguished guests. The full-day event was attended by the Tisch Asia community and also friends of the university.
Film Event: Tisch Asia – NYU Law School’s exclusive screening of “Scandal” by Akira Kurosawa
Tuesday, April 20th, 2010For the first time, Tisch Asia and NYU Law School organized a joint event, an exclusive screening of “Scandal” by Akira Kurosawa at Tisch School of the Arts Asia yesterday. After the screening, the students had a discourse on celebrity, privacy and freedom over light refreshments at the Student Lounge.

3rd year film student, Gerald “JC” Crump brought the glitz and glamour to his music video assignment with a bright yellow Lamborghini Spyder and a fancy Bentley Continental from Luxe Car Rental. The song is Monkey King‘s “Globetrotter”.
“Mao’s Last Dancer” Director Bruce Beresford and Lead Actor, Chi Cao at Tisch Asia
Friday, April 16th, 2010Today, director Bruce Beresford (Mao’s Last Dancer, Driving Miss Daisy etc.) and his lead actor from “Mao’s Last Dancer”, Chi Cao had a brown bag lunch workshop at Tisch Asia (surprisingly, no one brought their lunch!). Bruce spoked about the process of making “Mao’s Last Dancer” and directing non-actors such as classical dancer Chi Cao. As a first-time actor, Chi talked about his acting experience and working with Bruce. During the 2-hour workshop, Bruce shared tips in film research, storyboarding and also the writing process. “Mao’s Last Dancer” opened the 23rd Singapore International Film Festival yesterday.

Directing Workshop with “Prince of Tears” Director, Yonfan
Friday, April 16th, 2010Famed Hong Kong director, Yonfan was in Singapore for an exclusive directing workshop with Tisch Asia students and the premiere of his latest film, “Prince of Tears”. He started the workshop with a Q&A session with the students about his new film and directing experience. Four Tisch Asia students – Marc Wiltshire, Jason Chew , Paloma Nafarrate & Ting Song – directed their actors in the Black Box Theatre. After that, Yonfan provided constructive feedback on their exercise and shared his directing tips during this 3-hour workshop.
