Faculty News
Emil Polyak, assistant arts professor at Tisch School of the Arts Asia, gave a presentation at the International Conference of Education, Research and Innovation (ICERI2011) in Madrid in November. The title of he presentation was “Storytelling with Open Hardware: Interactive Animation Learning Framework.”
Based on previous classical learning models created for animation and digital artists, his work presented a framework to stimulate creativity by divergent thinking without compromising technology and specialization.
Open hardware technologies provide first-hand fabrication experience in a workshop environment embracing interdisciplinary collaboration and information sharing. The aesthetic experience is perceived through
vision, sound, smell and touch while the interactive experience is created by sensors, micro-controllers, kinetic sculptures, puppets and installations connected to virtual 3D worlds. This kind of learning environment in conjunction with the emotional interest enhances the capacity to achieve original content and ideas that have value, while the divergent thinking helps to find solutions in various areas and industries.
